What Our Clients Say
I got my tinted lens about 1 1/2 years ago. For me it was like being able to see for the
first time. The benefits are too numerous to list. Some things that have happened are:
no longer afraid of heights
the world no longer looks like a photograph
I can read for hours
I can read out loud with no mistakes
I only wished they could have diagnosed this 30 years ago when I was in school, life would have been so much easier.
- Sally
Thank you for my Irlen glasses. I received them three to
four weeks ago and I have found them very helpful. I have found them very beneficial when studying at university, as
they have made writing and typing a great deal easier. Perhaps an even better benefit has been the reduction in the
frequency and severity of the headaches and migraines I suffer. Thank you for all you did.
- Andy, University student
I have nearly forgotten how horrible everything
was before
I had my Irlen glasses. I enjoy going to school now.
- Howard, Primary School student
He loves wearing the radical and cool glasses, as his
friends at school call them. I call them our salvation. He has become a lot more confident and his school work has
improved dramatically.
The only problem has
been that his classmates have been trying to wear sunglasses to school.
- Mary, mother of student age 9
Yesterday I collected by Irlen filters and I wore them
straight away. I drove home, did some shopping on the way, cooked the dinner, read to the kids at bedtime, and watched
TV.
My eyes felt they were on holiday! And
they're still on holiday today.
- Betty, an adult
Thank you for my glasses. They have made such a big
difference to our lives. I only wish I had know about them years ago. I went of a school trip with the class recently
and did not
end up with a migraine so was able
to stay at work instead of going home to bed for a couple of days.
- Sarah, an adult
Before screening for Irlen Syndrome I thought I would have
noting wrong with me. Both my mother and I were really surprised and shocked during the screening and when we found the
overlays improved my reading. Since I have been wearing my glasses my reading flow has improved and all my work at
school is of a better standard than before. Before I knew I had Irlen Syndrome, I would try really hard with my work,
but the words would move and the whiteness of the paper would hurt my eyes. The big difference is the length I can now
concentrate on work for. Sometimes I would feel sick just trying to read for any length of time. Some people who
haven't got Irlen Syndrome or
don't understand the concept can be cynical about the use of overlays or coloured filters
but that is their problem. I know that they make a difference.
- Grace, a student
I put on my Irlen filters and my initial reaction was
"WOW". The scenery was so clear and almost in 3D (probably having proper depth perception for the first time), it was
quite incredible. I tried to explain this to my husband but it is difficult to put into words. I can also see the
television without squinting at it, the same with the computer screens.
I didn't expect such a dramatic difference. I
don't think I'll be driving without them.
- Mary, an adult
It's like a miracle. The improvements were instantaneous.
He has whizzed through books and gone up 2 sets on the reading scheme at school. He reads for pleasure now. One night I
had him draw a picture of the moon without his filters. It was misshapen and he said that it was uncomfortable to look
at and that the moon was moving and there were lights coming out from it. I had him do the same thing with his filters
on and it was a perfect moon with patterns.
This time he said it was comfortable to look at and it was stay still and
there were no flashes of light.
- Mother of a student
I am convinced he would not have
passed the 11+ without the
Irlen® Filters.
- Mother of a student
When I put on my glasses for the first time I was overcome
with a sense of relief, and I cried with happiness. At the age of 41, I was able to read and follow an instruction
manual for the first time in my life. At work I am able to do twice the amount of paperwork. If I try reading without
my Irlen® Filters, within 5 minutes everything is shifting. Now with my filters I am reading full novels which I hadn't
been able to do. And most of all -
file isn't overwhelming any more. A wave of calm has washed over me, and I do not
exaggerate.
- Gerri, an adult
You will not be surprised to hear that Aidan is absolutely
delighted with his glasses and it is very pleasing to report that his school progress has improved significantly since
he started wearing them.
His teachers are both
delighted and also surprised at the level of change that has occurred.
- Grandfather of Aidan
What the Professionals Say
Over the past two years, I became increasingly involved
with the technology and Helen Irlen's approach to learning disabilities. In that time I have encountered several
students whose grades have gone from Cs and Ds to As and Bs within the same term when they started wearing Irlen
Lenses and back down when their lenses were lost or broken. I could cite dozens of other testimonials. I do feel her
approach is a positive, sensible one, her technology works, and school psychologists need to be open to the idea that
there is something new. As school psychologists, we have all shared in the frustration of students, parents, and
teachers when learning is below expectations. This is another new tool to try that is both clinically and empirically
worthy of our attention.
- Diane, School Psychologist
Many children experience visual distortions which grossly
affect their functioning. What is quite remarkable is how a non-invasive intervention (Irlen® Method) can remove
distortions in an instant for many people. Children with autism need sensitivities reduced. I have now seen numerous
children who suffered from perceptual sensitivities
that were immediately relieved when they used an overlay or Irlen
lenses.

When I first learned about SSS, I was skeptical. I never
heard about it in my psychiatry training program. Yet, over time I had friends and family members who benefited from
the treatment. Remarkably, when people obtain benefit from the treatment, it helps to balance brain function.
One of
the factors that drew me to SSS and the Irlen treatment is its simplicity and effectiveness.
- Daniel Amen, M.D., Amen Clinics, Newport Beach, CA
The Irlen Syndrome represents an intriguing and
controversial spectrum of symptoms that remain invisible to most clinicians. During 32 months at the Amen Clinic, I
have confirmed diagnosis of approximately 210 patients with Irlen Syndrome. Irlen Syndrome, depending on the severity
and presence of co-existing disorders, contributed to anxiety, with a resulting spectrum of fatigue, irritability, and
vulnerability with a diminished cognitive reserve. Irlen Syndrome should be expected within the following clinical
composites: Bipolar Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Anxiety
Disorders, Reactive Attachment Disorders, Migraine,
Mood Disorder Spectrum, Recurrent Automobile Accidents, Excessive
Daytime Fatigue, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome.
- Robert Dobrin, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Autistic individuals who have benefited from the Irlen
Method report seeing better, feeling more relaxed, less sensitive to bright lights, having fewer perceptual
distortions, and better small and gross motor coordination.
- Olga Bogdashina, author of Sensory Perceptual Issues in Autism and Asperger Syndrome
Sensitivity to aspects of light, is an invisible barrier to
physical comfort and reading success. If ignored, it can become catastrophic for a child whose self-esteem and
self-worth are shaped by school failure. Color filtration used as (Irlen) colored overlays or worn as glasses is a way
to address sensitivity to aspects of light.
- Rhonda Stone, author of The Light Barrier: Understanding the Mystery of Irlen Syndrome and Light-Based Reading Difficulties
I have had a wonderful time with SSS screening, dazzled by
the brilliance of your discovery. I can't get over my own obtuseness in never having picked up the distortions in the
thousands of children and adolescents I have seen -- even though they were staring me in the face.
- Margie Golick, Ph.D., Chief Psychologist, McGill-Montreal Children Is Hospital Learning Centre, Canada
I have watched a generation of adults and youngsters weep with joy as the Irlen procedure has stopped moving print and
cleared smudged lines to let strugglers perceive printed information clearly for the first time.
